Gopichand

[ Gopichand ]

This one stringed instrument originally from Bengali, India is plucked. The string is attached at one end to a wooden peg used to tune the string and attached at the other end with a small washer to a goat skin stretched across the wooden sound box. When the two wooden slats between the sound box and the tuning peg are squeezed the pitch of the string is lowered. A glissando effect is very easily attained and with some practice melodies with a small range are possible.
